This Magic 8 ball was her eye on you.... The underlying form is an actual Mattel Magic 8 Ball. The history of the Magic 8 Ball dates back to 1940's Cleveland, Ohio where the ball's predecessor "The Syco-Seer" was invented by a local fortune teller Mary Carter who used it for "seances". The original design Magic 8 Ball used in these seances was actually a long, liquid-filled tube with a window at the top. Albert Carter, Mary's son, took the idea of the divination device used by his mother and turned it into a novelty, though Albert died before his toy was mass produced. The original design was closer to Mary's device than the Magic 8 ball we know today and was filled with molasses.
