Meet The Artist
Rachaela DiRosaria
Using new and reclaimed wood, architectural salvage, acrylic paint, fabric, and an assortment of repurposed found objects the artist creates dramatic, bold scenes within the hand fashioned shadow boxes and cabinets they build using primitive hand tooling mixed with simple electric tools as well as brush. The Artist begins by hand sketching a figure on birch wood sheets and removing it by way of jig or copping saw, finishing it with sanding and filing and painting it with acrylic and moving on to frame a background which will be painted in acrylic as well. Hand selecting the wood for the frame of the box, the artist is careful to match the wood with the mood of the theme. Inspiration for the works are often drawn from the bold advertisements that would accompany circus and vaudeville acts, as well as American style folk art.
