Meet The Artist

R.Scott Long

Man wearing a black T-shirt with a graphic of a rabbit in a suit on it, standing against a white wall.

Scott was born in Rockford, Illinois, to a homemaker and a delivery driver. At eight, he carved a small sparrow, learning from his dad, a self-taught carver. Inspired, he tried to capture a chickadee as a model, but released it because the bird was too stressed. By twelve, he carved his own likeness, feeling as if someone else was guiding him.

At thirty, while living in Milwaukee, Scott practiced a meditation technique from his mother and experienced astral projection, feeling a wave of energy. This event deeply influenced his work, which explores human potential and origins.

Scott still carves small birds for his partner, Betsy, of twenty years, and assists her in creating sculptural bases for her large bead art.
